A Letter from Emily,

our V. p. of Philanthropy:

Dear reader,

My name is Emily Goben, and I am beyond honored and thrilled to be serving on Alpha Nu’s 2024 Executive Board as the Vice President of Philanthropy. In this position, I am able to help our chapter promote domestic violence awareness and support our local beneficiary, True North of Columbia.

I believe in the power of education, advocacy, and support when it comes to combating domestic violence. That is why our chapter is so incredibly passionate about raising money for this cause, educating at our philanthropy events and around campus, and volunteering directly with True North. Our members are dedicated to raising awareness and creating a safe community for those affected by this issue.

Through our partnership with True North, a domestic and sexual violence survivor service program, we are able to make a real impact here in Columbia. We aim to support True North’s vision to provide all victims with safe housing, support, and advocacy. Our chapter actively volunteers with True North, offering their time and compassion to provide support to survivors. We collaborate with other organizations, host educational events, and engage in community outreach to spread awareness about domestic violence prevention and resources available.

By working closely with True North, we have seen firsthand the transformative power of collective action. Together, we work to create a society where everyone feels safe, supported, and empowered.

All my love (& LITB),

Emily Goben

Our beneficiary is a local domestic and sexual violence survivor service program called True North of Columbia. It provides the only residential facility in Boone County that supports those who have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault. In addition, they work directly with the Domestic Violence Enforcement Unit, provide outreach and education, operate a 24/7 hotline, train and coordinate hospital advocates, and offer counseling, support groups, childcare, and legal consultation. Their goal is to provide safety, shelter, education, and transitional support to those who have been affected by domestic and sexual violence.
